Orchard Road is known to be a shoppers’ paradise to the locals and tourists alike. From designer labels to famous restaurants, hotels, shopping centres, medical services, foreign embassies and even our very own presidential palace known as the Istana is found right here. 
Had you been here 150 years ago, you would have seen nutmeg and gambier plantations and fruit orchards (now you see why this place is called Orchard Road right?) It was a quiet residential area with cemeteries and places of worship. Bullock carts, orchard plantation workers and street peddlers were the common sight here.
